A Guide to India International Leather Fair (IILF) Chennai for First-Time Exhibitors
Building at the Chennai Trade Centre: the rules that shape your stand
The Chennai Trade Centre (Nandambakkam) is the city's principal exhibition venue, with its own access and marshalling discipline. The hall you're allocated shapes the build, so we design to the specific space rather than a generic assumption.
Power is sanctioned through the venue's official electrical contractor against a declared load (including any machinery demonstration), ordered ahead to avoid peak-build surcharges. Leather machinery can be heavy, so floor loading and safe mounting are planned in early. All materials are FR-treated with certificate and fire NOC filed before move-in, finishing is completed off-site, and two-storey builds need a structural-stability certificate from a licensed engineer.
Chennai logistics are the variable to plan: freight runs roughly 1,330 km by road from our Mumbai facility, so crating and convoy timing decide your build week; we schedule to land the stand inside its access window. For machinery exhibitors, we also coordinate equipment delivery, which often arrives separately, into one access window.
What a winning leather and footwear stand needs
The stands that win at IILF present product or capability well and make the quality legible. For finished leather, footwear and goods brands, we design clean, well-lit display that lets a buyer see and handle product, with samples and a clear range message; for machinery and chemicals brands, we design equipment display with clear capability messaging and a demonstration where useful. A sample and meeting area lets a manufacturer or exporter examine product and talk an order.
Lighting and presentation matter for leather, where colour, grain and finish are decisive, so we design to show the material truthfully; and we keep the message specific so a buyer grasps your range or capability quickly on a busy regional floor.
Designing for manufacturers, exporters and component buyers
Buyers walk IILF with production requirements and sourcing lists, so the stand has to qualify them fast and then talk specifics: a clear product or capability message, samples or display they can examine, then a seated conversation about ranges, finishes, volumes, price and lead time. We design the path from the display to that conversation, because at a sourcing show the product and capability earn the meeting and the meeting earns the order.
We keep the message specific to your segment — finished leather, footwear, components, leather goods, chemicals, machinery — because a footwear manufacturer and a machinery buyer want different proof, and a precise product-and-capacity statement is found far faster than a general 'leather' one.
What an IILF stand costs
A turnkey SOL stand at IILF runs from ₹1.8 lakh for a focused 9–18 m² Essential presence, from ₹4.5 lakh for a 24–48 m² Regular build with product display and a meeting area, and from ₹12 lakh for a 50–100 m²-plus Premium island, double-deck or heavy-machinery build. The figure is all-inclusive — design, fabrication, graphics, lighting, road freight to Chennai, install, dismantle and the venue paperwork — with only the organiser's floor rental outside it.
What moves the number is elaborate product display, machinery floor loading and demonstration, meeting-room enclosure, or a double-deck lounge. What you do not pay extra for is flooring, material handling and electrical fit-out, which sit inside the turnkey figure.
Stand sizes and layouts
Stands run from compact 9–18 m² spaces for component, chemical and accessory suppliers to 100 m²-plus islands and double-deckers for major leather, footwear and machinery houses. The layout leads with product or capability display where the aisle sees it and keeps a sample-and-meeting area for the order conversation. Corner and island positions help on a busy regional sourcing floor.
Whatever the size, we present and light product to show grain, colour and finish truthfully, because well-presented leather on a clean stand is the quality signal a buyer reads before they handle a sample.
Getting into the Chennai Trade Centre: build-up timing
The Chennai Trade Centre runs a tight build-up and dock schedule, and services book up early. We confirm your build slot, order power and any machinery-demo load through the venue contractor before the deadline, plan floor loading for heavy machinery, and time the Mumbai-to-Chennai freight so the stand and any equipment land set and ready for the first buyer.
For machinery exhibitors, we coordinate the stand and the separately arriving equipment into one access window rather than reacting to them on build day.
Reusing your stand between editions
Leather and footwear brands exhibit at IILF Chennai, the regional leather circuit and overseas leather fairs across the year, so a modular reusable stand with re-deployable display is strong value. We store the core in Mumbai, refresh graphics and product display for each edition, and keep your power and handling orders on file — so the next show is a refresh, not a rebuild.
Common mistakes, in order of frequency
- Flat lighting that hides the grain, colour and finish a leather buyer is assessing.
- Under-planning floor loading for heavy leather machinery.
- No sample or meeting area where manufacturers and exporters can examine product and talk an order.
- Generic 'leather' messaging that hides your range, finishes and capacity.
Getting Started
Send your stand size, your hall and stand number once the organiser has issued it, and a short note on what will physically happen on the stand. You get a 3D design and an itemised all-in quote, at no charge and with no obligation.
